SUCCESS ALLIANCE — PHILIPPINES PHASE 2
The SUCCESS Alliance Phase 2 Program in the Philippines was launched last October 27, 2006. This is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) as a three-year project under the USDA Food for Progress that aims to train 150 trainers and 15,000 smallholder farmers in cocoa production, post-harvest processing, pest and disease management, and marketing through the farmer field school FFS) methodology and participatory extension methods. Areas to be covered are the following: Western Mindanao; Palawan; Cordillera; Davao Provinces; Bicol; Panay; and selected areas in the Southern Tagalog Region. The implementing agency is ACDI/VOCA assisted by the Cocoa Foundation of the Philippines, Inc. (Cocoaphil). Other partners in the SUCCESS Alliance are the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), World Cocoa Foundation (WCF), and Mars Inc.
Under the SUCCESS Alliance Phase II, the following activities will be implemented:
• Training –of- Trainers (TOT)
• Farmer Field School
• Technology Transfer on Establishment of Nurseries, Budwood Gardens and Propagation of Planting Materials
• Establishment and Maintenance of Demo Farms
• Establishment of Post-Harvest Facilities
• Rehabilitation and Maintenance
• Development of Cocoa Beans Standard
